Nexus One Issues: Temporary Fix for Touchscreen calibration and 3G connectivity
![]()
So we think it's safe to say that a good amount of the initial shipment of Nexus Ones have a number of issues. Some are complaining on the Google Support Forums about their phone over heating, having 3G connectivity or the newly reported touchscreen issue. Google say that they are committed to solving the issues, and in the meantime here's a temporary fix for the 3G and touchscreen problem.
3G Connectivity Issue
AndroidCentral posted a great guide on how users should go about forcing the Nexus One to run only on 3G.
Touchscreen Problem
When touchscreen calibration occurs on the phone, a temporary fix would be to do a soft reset (press power, volume down and the trackball simultaneously).
Google is working to fix these issues, but if it can't be solved through a software update, the Nexus One Warranty covers this.
Question of the Day: How's your Nexus One holding up?

Mine has been working flawlessly since day after release day when I got it.
I've had mines for about a week. Got it last Tuesday. I love the phone. I do have the touchscreen issues from time to time. I'll try the soft reset today. No 3G issues on my end but that could be due to me living in Houston. I have 3G coverage almost everywhere I go and even on Edge my phone moves fast. So, no complaints. I just hate the phone didn't come with an instruction manual but I guess its cool to discover new things every day on your phone by accident.
Nexus One User Guide: http://www.google.com/googlephone/nexusone-userguide.pdf
i downloaded the manual (adobe). it's enormous and not enough pictures.
So, are you saying since I have the 3G and the touch screen issue, I should return it to Google for a replacement?
No problems here either.
It was heating up at first, but not anymore. That may have been because I used it so much the first few days.
I'm also in Houston, outside I get great 3G reception but i'm not really sure if the speed is where it should be, still seems a bit slow for 3G but inside it just doesn't work as well as my G1 did, it skips around big time. Also, inside when I touch the phone the signal reception decreases and when i'm playing pandora or the music player and I connect it to my audio system it does some weird stopping and skipping of songs when i touch it at times. I almost feel as if the electrical signal in my body is messing with the phone somehow, it is very odd. BUT, i do have to say this phone is simply amazing, got great hardware, great form, great speed, great camera and great screen. Also, I love android and its open source linux type environment with its growing app marketplace.
I noticed the same issue when I touch the phone and type with both hands on wiring the signal drops its the weirdest thing. I hope its a software fix coming soon and not hardware.
I ordered mine on the first day and got it 2 days later, and I have had little problems.
I live in a area that does not have a lot of 3G coverage, but the Edage works rather well compared to using other phones on Edge.
I do have some areas of no connectivity, but that happens with every phone i have had
I got mine on the 8th. it has been working just fine! =)
i had the g1 before the nexus one. So far my phone is awesome, ive seen a few flickers in the screen, and scrolling on the web could be smoother but i figure it could be fixed with an update. over all i like the upgrade from the g1, but would really like to have a dedicated talk but that would stay at the bottom of screen in stead of an app on one screen
Actually, pressing the volume down and the power down at the same time sends the phone into a hard reset menu, which means if you continue with this you will lose all your settings and data. A soft reset is down by removing the battery while the phone was powered ON and leave it out for 30 seconds, and then put battery back in and power back up.
Had my Nexus one for a few weeks and the phone is Awesome. However, I'm getting annoyed with the touch screen. For instance, when texting I am clearly hitting the letter I want yet nothing happens or it backs out to the previous screen or the keyboard disappears. Seems to be happening more frequently as of late, any one else having similar issues?
Yes I have the same problem as Juan says. Also when you try to push the bottom icons (in both positions of the telephone) doesn't work, you have to push over them. So I will try the reset. When you reset the phone a calibration app comes to you?
I've had my phone a week my phone heats up when charging and o mean "hot" also the touch screen is not as responsive as it should be. .I really hope Google fixes this
Thanks Google every other day its like Christmas up dates Google earth and does any one else have the docking station this thing is awesome my home steroids plugged in to it I control the music from any where in my house oh yes now watching my security cameras from amazing lock&video from any where just incredible.thanks again Google merry Christmas to me.the only draw back gave my wife the g1 and she is jealous I guess she's impressed as well since now she has purchased Google stocks. Huge fan of nexus One
I'm also having the same issues. It just started on the 3rd day. The touchscreen just goes wild after using the phone from sleep. Is there a definitive fix for this already?
I've had my phone for about a month, and as of lately, it's been acting up. A few times, as i was making a call, the screen went blank, and wouldn't come back on, then after a few minutes it would restart, and at times the screen is just non responsive. I hope I won't get a headache with support, if the time comes for me to exchange it.
How about Flash player? We are waiting for and update from Google so this will work! Hulu doesn't work until this problem is fixed.
got my nexus one february 15. didn't notice the touch screen problem until i started playing games like Daily Sudoku Lite. similar problems happen when playing OpenSudoku. these are not multitouch games, just press one thing at a time. nevertheless, playing either game causes the touch screen to freak out, so that it'll act like this youtube video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NidwwmfjFAM).
this touchscreen problem is very serious. if i weren't traveling outside the usa for five months, i'd return the nexus one. it's disappointing that a problem this serious got past htc and google quality inspectors. iphone touchscreen usability is much better:-(
i desperately want an open smart phone instead of the iphone jail. i hope google and htc get the touchscreen problem fixed soon. otherwise, i'll seek an alternative, such as the top samsung android phone (though i heard they alter the gui to be less user friendly).
come on google and htc, please get this touchscreen problem fixed, so many of us can enjoy our $539 smart phone!!!
I ordered and received the Nexus One on 2/15, and immediately had 3G problems it was on Edge 99% of the time, the OTA never fixed the issue, and I am in Silicon Valley Ca 3 miles from Google headquarters, where T-Mobile has upgraded its network to 3.5 G HSPA+. The next day, the microphone blew out! I returned the defective phone on Friday 2/19 for a new replacement. HTC authorizes your credit card for $ 529 to replace it and return the defective phone...that really sucks!!! My second device had major issues with the touch screen freezing and multitouch problems. Two bad devices in less than 2 weeks!!! Bad, bad service with Google and HTC. I returned it and am waiting for my refund!! Worse experience I have had with Google and HTC, terrible system of distribution. Goldman Sachs cut their analysis of 2010 of N1 sales from 3.5 million to 1 million and called the Google online store and distribution a "total failure" I totally agree!!! Google and HTC need to get their act together ASAP!!!!
WTF!! I WANT TO GET RID OF THIS HIGH DOLLAR IPHONE BEFORE MY 30 DAYS ARE UP TO RETURN IT. how can these guys put these phones out without them being right.....baffling.....you think the nexus one has problems do some research on the htc hero at sprint. this is a damn joke. ridiculous
My touchscreen keeps going wonkers every so often. So far, a soft reset seems to fix it, as does a simple power-off/on cycle. Using the virtual keyboard seems to "irritate" it more than normal stuff, but that may just be my impression and not reality. After all, one is exercising the touch screen hardware/software more when using the vkb than other times, I think.
This is missing flash like you wouldn't believe. Same thing with the iPhone. The touch screen on the Nexus One is comparable to the iPhone but still isn't quite as functional. I wonder how it will interact with the 4G Spring network.
My phone has overheated. I wish i had got the iphone instead. I work as a locksmith in uk and rely heavily upon my phone for a multitude of tasks. Now it is useless and I have had to buy another phone whilst this is being 'repaired'. I just want my money back
